A valve in need of a swimming pool repairman

When you own a pool there will likely come a time when you need to have it repaired. Some repairs are due to wear and tear while others can be a result of weather conditions or accidents. Whichever category your repair falls under, you may need a pool repairman to fix your problem. Let’s take a look at some common pool repairs that you may face as a pool owner.

Pool Filter Issues

There are some pool filter issues that you may be able to take on yourself and others that require a pool repairman. You’ll notice problems with your filter when your water isn’t as clean as it should be. Start by changing this filter. This should do the trick if you don’t have a larger filter problem on your hands. Your filter may just need some routine maintenance if you’ve been neglecting it, or you may have other filter issues that a pool repairman will be able to detect.

Leaks

When it comes to pool leaks, you may be able to start the project off, but may need the help of a pool repairman to finish it. Leaks in pools are usually pretty noticeable because you’ll see the water level steadily decrease. The first step is to figure out where the leak is coming from. Check the piping and the pool equipment first to see if all the connections are tight. If you notice something loose, you should be able to tighten it yourself.

If everything is tight, you may have a rip in the liner. Should this be the case, you’ll want to call a pool repairman to diagnose the problem. They’ll be able to determine if you need a new liner. If so, you’ll want to have the work done by a professional to make sure that it is installed properly.

Pool Liner Problems

On the subject of pool liners, you may notice your liner starts to come out of the track. This is a common problem as the liner ages. The older the liner is the stiffer and stretchy it becomes.

If your pool liner is starting to pull away, you’ll start to notice it pulling away at the corner. You can try to fix it yourself with boiling water. This is a process that can be a bit tedious which is why people call a pool repairman. Pool repairmen have the necessary tools needed to make the process easier and get the job done right the first time.

Pump Problems

Problems with your pool pump certainly fall under the category of those pool problems that you’ll want to call a repairman to fix. When your pool pump is not working properly, your filtration system and cleanliness of your pool are affected. This can lead to cloudy water and even green water due to algae and bacteria build-up.

When the pool pump starts pulling air into the system, the pump will lose power to move water. When the pump is working, but not moving water, the water isn’t getting filtered the way it should. Not only will this lead to dirty water, but it can cause the pump to overheat and possibly burn. If this happens, you’re looking at a repair that will be costly. Calling a pool repairman first can help to determine the problem quickly and get it fixed before it becomes a larger problem.

Pool Heater Problems

Pool heaters can malfunction just as the heaters in your home do. When this happens, it could be a simple fix or one that requires a good amount of parts and labor. It’s best to call a pool repairman so they can assess the situation properly. You may be able to get refurbished parts or completely refurbished. It depends on what needs to be fixed.

Hollow spots & “popping” up

Hollow spots or “popping” out are among the worst problems your in-ground pool can have. This is certainly a job for a pool repairman and not one that you want to take on yourself.

Hollow spots occur when the substrate separates from the pool. The backfill can shift away and leave a section unsupported. This is noticeable when divots or bulges begin to happen. To fix this problem, the hollow spot needs to be filled in and resurfaced.

Another issue that can arise happens if you live in an area where the water table is high. This can cause hydrostatic pressure to build up beneath your pool. This pressure can be so severe that it can force your pool to pop up off the ground. If this happens, even a pool repairman is not going to be able to fix the problem. This means you will need a new pool.

It’s best to start from scratch and have a hydrostatic pressure relief valve installed when the pool is installed. This will save you money down the road should this problem surface again.
